The static text and images portlet is used for putting text or images directly on the page via TinyMCE WYSIWYG editor.

Edit Mode:

This portlet using WYSIWYG editor allows the user to write HTML pages in plain english taking out the techinical aspects of coding in HTML. The portlet allows various functionalities found in a text editor such as 'Word', and can be used to format and style paragraphs, and allows direct insertion of images and creating anchor links.

Added functionalities includes viewing the source in HTML context, insertion & editing of flash files, creating VYRE file, Page and Item link. All of these functions can be accessed by clicking on the associated icons, hovering over the icons with the mouse shows the title of the icon for help. Clicking on these icons produces a popup box which can be edited.

Styles and Format

Write out the sentence and highlight it and then choose the styling and formatting by clinking on the relevant drop down menu's. Alternatively choose the options and then start writing out the words.

Inserting images

  1. Click on the image icon, on the popup window the user will be presented with multiple options.
  2. Enter the url of the image - ie: "/other_files/folder/image.jpg".
  3. Write out a meaningful description for the image.
  4. Choose from the drop down menu the needed alignment.
  5. Specify the image dimensions width X height.
  6. Enter a value greater than 0 for Border, vertical and horizontal spacing for the image.
  7. Click on 'Insert'.

Insert/Edit flash movies

  1. Click on the File:Flash.gif.
  2. Enter the url for the flash file and include the dimensions of the file.

VYRE file

  1. Click on the File:Vyre file.png.
  2. In the new window type in the whole or partial name of the item to be searched, click on the list of names underneath 'Search in these content stores' to specify which stores to search through. Hold CTRL and click on multiple names to choose more than one stores. Click on 'GO' to search.
  3. If the search registers item, they will be shown on the right hand side on the window. By clicking on the '+' sign that item will be inserted into the editor. Click on '0' to view the item.
  4. If there isn't a file on the returned search and there is a need to first upload a file, then click on 'Upload a file'. A different screen will be shown on the right hand side of the window.
  5. From the drop down menu choose the store you want to upload the file into.
  6. Click on browse under 'Upload a file' to browse and choose the file to upload.
  7. Enter a meaningful name and description for the file.

VYRE Page link

  1. Click on the File:Vyre link.png.
  2. In the new window slect the page you want to link to, the root pages can be expanded to find the sub-level pages.

  1. Click on the File:Vyre item link.png.

Insert tables

  1. Click on the File:Table.gif.
  2. In the popup window fill out the necessary fields under 'General'
  3. For advanced properties click on the tab with same name and fill out the fields.
  4. Under 'Advanced' tab select the icon next to border/background color field to view a popup window, where different options for colour is given. Click on Apply to set the colour.
Note: Web safe colour is recommended for optimisation of colours.

Inserting tables

Insert custom character

  1. Choose File:Charmap.gif and in the new window select any of the special characters you would like to include. While hovering over the characters, the HTML and numerical is also shown.
  2. Click on 'Save' and 'view' to see the results.
