Unify Content module is the section of Unify which manages content. The Content module organizes content into Data and File stores containing items of content.


Data and File Stores

These are the two main sections of the content module, used to create and manage Unify's data and file stores and manipulate their contents. Collections under the Data Stores section contain textual data such as news articles whereas File Stores are used to hold binary files such as documents, images or video files.

Selecting any of the listed stores allows you to view and edit items within that store and search for them based on different criteria. You can also edit properties of the store, define content or metadata attributes of it's items and create links between items from different stores. For file stores, File services can be configured that determine how files within the store are converted to different formats.

This section lets you perform searches that span multiple stores. You can select which stores to include in the search using a select box in the right hand column of the Unify interface.

Saved searches

Saved searches are a way to create dynamic lists of content from one or more stores. A saved search is essentialy a query that returns a list of items based on specified criteria each time it is run. These can be used in different parts of a Unify-based site to display lists of content selected in a specific way. See Saved search for more information.

Within this section you can manage saved searches and organize them into folders. You can also create a new saved search by searching for items in the Data, File Stores or Search sections and clicking the "Save this search" toolbar item.

Upload Files

In this section the user can upload files to their user directory. This can be used later to import file-items or for unify_export files.

Import configurations

Import configurations are used to configure the importing of items into Unify, which is a way to populate content stores with a large number of items at a time. An import configuration contains settings defining the format of files holding the data to be imported and how the contents of these files are converted to content item data.

External import configurations

External import configurations make it possible to further customize an import configuration by specifying which attributes appear within an instance of the Unify desktop uploader tool and their order.

Import queue

This sections shows the status of currently running and completed content imports.

Export configurations

Export Configurations complement the content import functionality and provide the ability to define a set of setting to be used when exporting multiple content store items.


The Settings section contains three subsections that hold configuration related to the Content module:


This section displays a report on the state of indices that are used too look up items in Unify's content stores and provides tools for maintaining them. More information on indices, including the data displayed in this section and the available tools, is available in the Indices article.

In 4.8 the indices section have been divided into two sections:

  • local - for lucene
  • remote - for solr

Recycle bin

The Recycle bin is where items are moved when they are deleted from a content store. All stores are listed here with the number of deleted items and the time of last deletion. For each store that has deleted items, you can view the item list and use the top toolbar actions to restore or permanently delete either selected items or all items from the store.

Content structure import

The Content structure import section provides the ability to import Data and File store, or Collection Schema definitions into Unify. There is two types:

  • Excel
  • XML
